Good on Garth snow. For all the crp he gets in not getting guys to come here, look at the nabby situation. Perfect guy to bridge gap to Poulin/Nilsson.

Why is this funny? Your team is out of playoffs and spent 20 million more

i happen to not get it.... its a very good signing- like niteislander said (in the previous post), it makes not trading him not hurt as much but from a goaltending perspective its also nice to have a vet, with a solid career, who has succeeded on the island resign...i dont necessarily think nabakov will help getting UFAs to sign here but i DO think, knowing that RDP (presumably- knock on wood) wont be playing could help get a few guys signed....i sure as poop hope so at least

dont forget about their gold plated parking lot lines

it must burn knowing that they once called themselves cup contenders and leino was a 2nd line center

I was looking for a two-year deal, but this is a smart move by Nabby. He is still in great shape, and he is putting up great numbers. If the Islanders don't show a step forward next season, it still gives Nabokov at least two to three years in the league where he may be able to find a Cup contending team looking for an experienced goaltender.

Good move by Garth to lock up a key player for another season. Nabokov is the best goaltender we have had since Osgood's stellar performances in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003. Hopefully we take a step forward and can lock him in to another deal after next season. This allows both Poulin and Nilsson next season to rotate as back-ups for the Islanders, and still get a good amount of development and playing time with the Sound Tigers.

Only question is what the value of the contract is. With the Islanders needing to spend big bucks just to get to the salary floor, I would not be surprised to see this contract be somewhere around $2.5 million or more.

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie Close
Evgeny Nabokov's new one-year deal with the NYI is $2.75M. The deal does NOT include a No Move or No Trade clause.

Only downside is he'll be 37 next year and may have gotten quite a bit for him at the deadline (certainly more than he'd get next year).

I bet Detroit wishes they had him right now.

Finally some good news on the Island. Oh yeah did I not report this months ago when I said he was going to resigned and you guys crucified me. I am the next Eklund baby WOO HOO!

this just means my buddy DP is really not part of the future plans with this team. Nabby wanted to know that situation before he signed so this a sign of things to come. Maybe just maybe with a number one goalie playing we can actually be decent next year. I was going to ban them next year but I think I just might watch. Next we get rid of Jack and a few cast aways and we are in business

they didn't get any solid offers that's why he didn't get moved this year. Not sure what your point is??

Whether or not trading him for any sort of value was ever on the table or not is something none of us know. All I do know is that the reality of signing him to a 1 year extension is a good move for the team.

Easy. Wasn't trying to be a wiener. My point was that for a team that isn't going anywhere yet (although the future looks bright) that his value was likely higher this year, while he's having a good season, that it will be when he's a year older.

Question: How do you know what offers they were given?

It also helps show the league...

"I did NOT want to goto Long Island.. I did NOT want my contract held over to the next year... But I got there.. and.. well.. They have a good bunch of kids, they have a solid core for the future, the Island is a great place to live.. im really happy here & i want to be here to turn it all around.
*Of course this wasn't said by him, but his actions have*

This signing is a very important message to the rest of the league.. Long Island is a great place to play!
